“Step right up!” Climb into the wild, weird and wonderous history of the carnival in Canada, so eloquently captured in the virtual exhibit Jack Ray: Selling Glamour and Illusion, produced for virtualmuseum.ca. Jack Ray was one of the country’s premiere carnival artists of the mid-20th century, and the magic of his designs is preserved and presented by the North American Carnival Museum & Archives in Stittsville, ON.
As the summer nights become longer and cooler, we’ll be looking to the cavalcade of the lights from the ferris wheel and exhibiting documents and photos from this collection and others on our Facebook page. Check back regularly for new material, or add your own links and reminiscences to the collection.
Grab a bucket of popcorn and a baton of cotton candy, and hear the caller’s ballyhoo straight from the heydey of yesteryear’s carnival.
