Parks Canada now has a few free mobile applications that are available on the App Store and Google Play. Each explores Canada’s heritage in a different way.
The applications have a lot of rich content that can be used when not connected to the network, making them the perfect companion for a visit.
Learn to Camp
The Learn to Camp is a mobile app designed for first time campers in Canada’s National Parks. It includes tips and tricks so that you don’t forget home anything that you’ll need for a successful camping weekend. Popular camping recipes and locations are also included to make the first-timers experience as smooth as possible. It includes some great videos and pointers from Parks Canada Staff.
Lachine Canal Explora
The Lachine Canal Explora app was created for the Lachine Canal National Historic Site as a GPS-based mobile application that offers a tour of the site, including images and a map with highlighted historical points of interest.
Parks Canada also loans out mobile devices to allow those without smartphones to enjoy the same experience.
No need to leave your home, with the Heritage Gourmet mobile app that presents Heritage recipes from Canadian historic sites. It includes over 60 recipes with images and instructions with each recipe linking to one of Canada’s Historic Sites and a story relating it to Canadian heritage. Take it with you to the store to use their built-in shopping list, to help you find the ingredients to try these recipes at home.
