Referring to the historical significance of the Fairfield site, Mr. Ford noted that it was not only the first village in western Ontario and the first Protestant mission in the peninsula, but the site of the death of Tecumseh, whom described as "the last and greatest Indian chief and warrior," in the famous Battle of the Thames on October 5, 1813.
