created by a student artist in the Department of Studio
Arts (Photography) under the supervision of Marisa
Portolese, Assistant Professor in Studio
Arts (Photography), Faculty of Fine Arts,
Concordia University.
Sabrina Russo, a Toronto native, studied photography at the Ontario College of Art and Design and is now pursuing a Master of Fine Arts at Concordia University. Russo’s work considers time, memory, and the ways that we record our experiences. As part of The Office for Archival Review, Russo recently co-coordinated an investigation of the archives at Centre des arts actuels Skol. This project considered archival material as a site of interaction, exchange and production. Working with video, Russo created 3D photographs of past exhibitions as a playful response to the flattening effect of photographic documentation. In David C., the beach, Russo depicts clothing as an activator of memory. Russo states, “This work is an early investigation of the reciprocal way in which clothing both marks and shapes one’s identity. Each pair of images documents time spent with a specific person in a particular social setting; a carefully planned first impression.”
