First Nations Snowboarders
In the old days, some First Nations people clambered up mountains on foot to attain spiritual or physical healing. Today, aboriginal youth race down from the peaks as members of the First Nations Snowboard Team. The program develops competitive aboriginal snowboarders and certified instructors, but also promotes healthy lifestyles through sport, education, culture and nutrition. Squamish artist Xwalacktun created designs on this snowboard to depict Thunderbird, representing the supernatural, and Eagle, for the vision to achieve goals.
