Oxidation Firing Perhaps the common kiln that's used in North America is
the Electric Kiln. The atmosphere in an electric kiln is generally what we call
oxidizing. It means there is no smoke, no atmosphere which is going to change
the oxide colours of the glazes that we used. Electric kilns are particularly
convenient for very careful colour development and colour control as we see in
this small piece of maiolica from Alan Caiger-Smith in England. Very well controlled
colour use in here. The electric kiln is particularly suited for very specific
colour use.
