Artist Statement

The Garden Ruin

This work is about the power of nature. When I see a small plant growing out of cracked concrete sidewalks and driveways, I recall the accounts I read as a young boy of great civilizations that rose and fell and were eventually swallowed up by desert sands or overgrown by the tangled jungle. Nature is persistent and will have the last word.
