Paul White was born in December 1956, and lives in Old Massett, Haida Gwaii. In 1975, he began
carving argillite; three years later, he began carving wood. At the time, he was apprenticing
with Haida artist Robert Davidson. Paul also learned silkscreen printing in 1976 at George M.
Dawson Secondary School, and went on to pursue painting, as well as carving in silver and gold.
He has worked with Jim Hart on a few of his projects since 1989. In the words of Vince Collison,
Paul's friend: "Paul is one of the shyest people you will ever meet. He also just happens to be
one of the elite artists around!"
