Royal Alberta Museum
The Royal Alberta Museum is a branch of the Heritage Division within the Government of Alberta's ministry of Culture and Community Spirit. It is located in Edmonton, Alberta and is one of Canada's most popular museums. Set in a park just west of downtown, the Museum offers a full range of exhibitions and activities for every age level and interest. Feature exhibitions at the Museum are changing all the time, complementing a series of long-term galleries on Alberta's natural and human heritage. Permanent galleries are: Syncrude Gallery of Aboriginal Culture, Natural History Gallery, The Bug Room, Fossils: Creatures from the Depths of Time and Wild Alberta.
Renseignements sur les collections
The Royal Alberta Museum’s collections are curated by 13 human and natural history programs, with a total collection of over 8 million objects representing a highly diverse complement of artifacts and specimens. These include mammals, birds, fish, insects, minerals and rocks, fossils, and plant specimens, ethnographical material related to the First Nations, artifacts that document Alberta and western Canada's history including the province’s military and political history and its diverse culture communities. The Museum is the official repository for all permitted archaeological material recovered in Alberta. It is also a major partner of the Alberta Biodiversity Monitoring Institute, responsible for sorting, processing, identification and long-term storage of voucher specimens (since 2007 about 195,000 specimens).
