Opened in 1971, MSVU Art Gallery exists as a resource to Mount Saint Vincent University, communities served by the University, artists and art publics everywhere. The Gallery reflects the University's educational mission by emphasizing the representation of women as cultural subjects and producers. Through its focus on contemporary art and the annual apprentice program, the Art Gallery has been a catalyst to many careers in the arts. Its exhibitions explore various forms of cultural production, highlighting the achievements of Nova Scotia artists and themes relevant to academic programs offered by the University.

MSVU Art Gallery promotes critical access to its exhibitions through publications, lectures and other educational activities. Posters and exhibition catalogues may be ordered from the gallery; and a selection of catalogues is also available from ABC Art Books, Montreal. The gallery manages the University art collection, which may be viewed in the E. Margaret Fulton Communications Centre and other campus buildings. The Art Gallery is supported by Mount Saint Vincent University and the efforts of its volunteers and Advisory Committee. Exhibitions, events and publications listed in this brochure were funded in part by a grant from the Canada Council for the Arts.
