St. Norbert Arts Centre
Tourism Region: Winnipeg
Housed in the guesthouse of a former Trappist Monastery, the St. Norbert Arts Centre is a thriving multi-disciplinary arts organization. In addition to presentation space for visual art, music, theatre and dance, the centre contains several guest rooms and a variety of studio facilities to accommodate residencies and retreats by artists working in all media. The former Monastery itself fell victim to fire in 1983, and now stands as Canada's only monastic ruins. During the summer months the ruins are used for music, literary and theatrical presentations. Historical information on the site and interpretive tours are also offered to visitors.
