CFB Petawawa Military Museums

The CFB Petawawa Military Museums house the Base Museum and the Canadian Airborne Forces Museum. The collections of the Royal Canadian Dragoons, the Canadian Guards, and 427 Tactical Helicopter Squadron are also displayed in the exhibit building.

Canada's military personnel have contributed to world peace and aided in humanitarian and disaster relief efforts at home and abroad. The stories of their sacrifices, the battles won and lost, and the aid that they have brought to thousands are told at the CFB Petawawa Military Museums.

About the Collections

The CFB Petawawa Military Museums house the Base Museum and the Canadian Airborne Forces Museum. The collections of the Royal Canadian Dragoons, the Canadian Guards, and 427 Tactical Helicopter Squadron are also displayed in the exhibit building. Each of the collections focuses on significant elements of material culture, which record and demonstrate the military experience specific to each organization. Vehicles, guns, uniforms, badges and insignia, arms and technical equipment, flags, models, dioramas, art, photographs and archival material preserve the accomplishments of military personnel in Canada and abroad.

Base Museum -> The histories of the formations and units garrisoned at Petawawa are preserved in an eclectic collection of uniforms, badges and insignia, arms and technical equipment, flags, dioramas, art and archival material. A vehicle park contains a variety of ground and air combat/transportation vehicles and equipment. There are also two aircraft. Approximate number of artifacts collected since 1982: 4,000.

Canadian Airborne Forces Museum -> The history of Canada's Airborne Forces are preserved in an extensive collection of uniforms, badges and insignia, arms and technical equipment, flags, art and archival material. Approximate number of artifacts collected since 1974: 8,600.

Canadian Guards Collection -> A varied collection of material culture including uniforms, badges and insignia, arms and technical equipment, flags, instruments, figurines, art and archival material capture the history of the Royal Regiment of Canadian Guards from its establishment in 1953 until its disbandment in 1970. Approximate number of artifacts collected since 1994: 600.

Royal Canadian Dragoons Collection -> A varied collection of material culture including uniforms, badges and insignia, arms and technical equipment, flags, display ordnance, dioramas, art and archival material capture the history of the Royal Canadian Dragoons from its establishment in 1883 until present day.

427 Tactical Helicopter Squadron Collection -> A varied collection of material culture including uniforms, badges and insignia, technical equipment, flags, models, art, archival material, and a stuffed lion mascot capture the history of 427 Squadron from its establishment in 1942 until present day.
