A CNR Class 3 railway station built in 1919 is the home of the Prairie River museum in the friendly town of Prairie River, SK (approximately 3 hours east of Saskatoon) It was designated as a Municipal Heritage Property in 1982. Opened in 1985 it displays over 4000 artifacts that tell the story of the early pioneer, lumbering and agricutural industries of Prairie River and district, life between 1900 - 1950 and of the diversity of ethnic cultures brought to this area. Artifacts from the privately owned Shaw Bros. Railroad Saw Mill & Planer (1906 - 1917) Prairie River, highlight your journey through the past. Archaeological artifacts found locally date back to 6000BC, including arrowheads, knives and scrapers. Some of the many other artifacts including clothing, wooden harrows, radios, gramophones, household items, saws, axes, carpenter tools, many old photos and much, much more.
