Tourism Region: Canadian Badlands

http://media.rcip-chin.gc.ca/ac/images99/GUAACQ/main.jpg

A National Historic Site of Canada, and Provincial Historic Resource. The Atlas is the last of 143 coal mines in the Drumheller valley to close. We protect all of the surface facilities, including the last wooden tipple in Canada.Other buildings of interest are the miners' washouse, lamphouse, blacksmith shop, mine office, and houses. We display hundreds of pieces of machinery and coal cars. The Atlas preserves and presents the objects and stories from the days when coal was king in Canada. Our lively guides bring the site to life.
