Région touristique : Vancouver Coast and Mountain
The Abbotsford Lumber Company built this arts and crafts bungalow in 1920 for B.C. timber baron J.O. Trethewey. Restored to 1925, the house is an excellent representation of the area's two major early industries. It is built with the finest fir lumber produced at the mill that was owned and operated by J.O. and his brothers. Bricks in the chimneys and fireplaces, made with clay mined in nearby Sumas Mountain and processed at Clayburn Village, are reminders of one of B.C.'s first company towns. Trethewey House was designated as a heritage site in 1983 and is now operated by the MSA Museum Society. The Museum Society also operates the MSA Museum Annex in the lower level of the Clearbrook Library to provide space for the Museum's Reserve, archival and photo collections; provide a venue for static and seasonal displays and a researcher reading room.
